Ece Canlı

Ece Canlı is a Turkey-born and Portugal-based vocalist, composer and artist whose music combines extralinguistic expressions, counterfactual narratives, and the limits and possibilities of the sounding body. Blending extended vocal techniques, electronics and various acoustic matters together, she performs and improvises both a soloist and in collaborations. Some of her music projects include LIVE LOW (an electronic band by Pedro Augusto), NOOITO (a duo with the harpist Angélica Salvi) and COBRACORAL (an experimental vocal trio with Catarina Miranda and Clélia Colonna). She produces sound for stage, exhibitions and films, as well as directing and composing for ensembles. In November 2020, Ece's solo debut VOX FLORA, VOX FAUNA was released from Porto-based label Lovers&Lollypops. Combining a multiplicity of styles from ancient threnodies to contemporary vocal experiments, the album was a symbolic embodiment of the human-animal-nature, as a mediation between the earthly and the celestial. In her second album, S A C R O S U N, which comes out in October 2024 from the same label, she employs a maximalist approach and expands the earthly to the cosmic, grounding further into the plasticity of human voice and the world of the artificial manipulation of the acoustic matter. The album is an assemblage of vocal extensions, noisy textures, field recordings, electromagnetic resonances, bass lines, beats and loads of harmonic pleasures, all revolving around the same cosmic vortex.
