Matt Mckinney
Country / Contemporary Country
North Georgia native, Matt McKinney didn’t first find his passion for music & storytelling 2 years ago when he moved to Nashville. ...he knew he had a passion for music at a young age. Whether it was growing up surrounded by his dad’s family gospel quartet or watching his older brother play in and out of punk rock bands, Matt was always bordered by music and creativity.
“I had a friend of mine take me on the road with him for about a week while in college,” Matt says about remembering the moment he decided to pursue a career in country music, “I wasn’t playing gigs or putting out music at that time, but when I got back I knew that’s what I wanted to do.”
Graduating UGA & relocating to Nashville to write full-time, Matt continues to expand his witty-filled traditional-influenced catalog of songs. Garnering cuts from fellow artists Trey Lewis, Ryan Nelson & TX Country Radio artist Matt Daniel ...McKinney relentlessly sharpens his skill of writing that once started at the young age of 10.
With 2021 right around the corner & new beginnings happening everywhere, Matt sits on the heels of his first single release since moving to Nashville, TN. “Growing Up” tells a pseudo-humorous story of McKinney’s everlasting pursuit of his “on the road, up in smoke honky tonk dream” all while witnessing the ongoing age of life happen at the same time. Written with Bryan West & produced by Alex Maxwell & Grady Saxman, “Growing Up” is the first of several releases planned for 2021.
