Misled Convoy

Misled Convoy is Mike from Pitch Black’s solo project, his vehicle for exploring outside of the constraints of his more populist collaboration. The first Misled Convoy release was a live album recorded at Beautiful Music, Auckland in 1999 and was followed by Translations, remixes of a plethora of acts from around the world. Pitch Black's last hiatus gave Mike the chance to finally record Misled Convoy's studio debut, Tickling the Dragon's Tail in 2014. Hailed as "stunning" by Louder than War, it was expectedly dark and dubby, but was also surprisingly groovy in parts with plenty of ambience and noise in there too. 2018 saw the release of his second studio album, Sixteen Sunsets, which was alive with sonic ideas and found sounds (recorded on his travels across Europe), woven together into delicate yet sophisticated pastiches, then layered and twisted with beats and melody. The second and third instalments of Translations followed in 2021 and 2023, featuring more remixes infused with his unique sonic palette. His live show is as rich and nuanced as his recordings, with beats and bass emerging from a deep ambient introduction, seamlessly interwoven with an array of dub effects, delay and reverb.
