Shai Maestro
Jazz / Avant-Garde Jazz / Bebop
Shai Maestro is a visionary jazz pianist and composer whose profoundly lyrical artistry and expansive musical imagination have earned him an esteemed place in the contemporary jazz landscape.
In 2008, Maestro joined the internationally celebrated bassist Avishai Cohen and recorded the acclaimed albums “Gently Disturbed", "Seven Seas" and "Aurora"
In 2010, Maestro stepped forward as a leader, establishing his own trio and unveiling a singular compositional voice. He released the eponymous debut album “Shai Maestro Trio” (2012) which deft synthesis of delicate melodic architecture, spacious improvisations, and intuitive ensemble cohesion garnered international acclaim. Subsequent albums—“The Road to Ithaca” (2013), “Untold Stories” (2015), and “The Stone Skipper” (2016)—deepened his artistic identity, each new release broadening the emotional and conceptual contours of his music.
A momentous chapter in Maestro’s career began with his alliance with ECM Records, whose revered aesthetic and storied history of championing distinctive voices found an ideal partner in the pianist’s introspective yet adventurous spirit. “The Dream Thief” (2018) and "Human" (2021) produced under the guidance of ECM founder Manfred Eicher revealed Maestro’s capacity to create intimate, contemplative soundscapes that transcended genre, drawing listeners into a musical realm where silence was as telling as sound.
